I probably should have read the review better. Two things. One, it doesn't come with a holder so it's pretty useless by itself if you're new to gelling your flash. Two, you can get what seems to be the same or very similar for half the price without the Strobist label Roscolux Swatch Book, Small Sampler of Almost Every Filter.
So far gelling just seems like a tedious step especially if I am going to adjust my images in photoshop anyway, but then I'm new to all of this too.

Rosco gel packs are known in the Strobist community for their free sampler packs - books with hundreds of these gels in various colors that just happen to fit over camera flash units (even the larger ones like the 580EXII). These are great little kits as not only do you get the color-correction gels (CTO, CTB, etc..) but also the "fun" colors to play around with, and tons of different shades.. all free! Due to the popularity, these now sell for a couple bucks: Roscolux Swatch Book, Small Sampler of Almost Every Filter.
As these became popular over the years, Rosco and Strobist got the idea to actually sell them in this kit. Not a bad idea considering how almost everyone was using them (free) for a purpose other than what they were intended for (intended to give you an idea for the color so that you can buy large sheets for stage lighting and such). Problem is.. they didn't really make it better. They're a bit bigger, but you're getting way less colors and it includes no way of attaching them to the flash easily. In this way, it's no better than the stuff you could earlier get for free. It works though, and if you need a set of gels, this is a cheap purchase that will do what you need it to!
If you're not in a rush or willing to play around, I'd check out the Roscolux swatch book and see what kinds of results you can get from those first. Not just to save money (I think the company should be supported for their product), but because of the additional flexibility you get out of it due to the different shades (and if you have 4 flashes and want 4 shades of purple, it's just not possible with this kit, whereas it is with the sampler).

These are great gels for speed lights. Do you know how I know? Because they used to be FREE samples before Rosco decided to jump on the "strobist" bandwagon. The only difference is they took out the hole and it says "strobist" on it so all the fanboys will drool over it. I can't really blame them too much though because David H was encouraging people to get those free samples without really having the intention of buying the full sized sheets and ruined it for everybody else. I used to order one of those sample packs when I made my order from a famous photography store in NY and I also own big sheets for my monolights. I like Rosco's gels but now that they don't have the sample pack anymore I'm not so sure...there ARE other gel makers out there you know.

This is a good product but was lacking information in the discription. These gels do not come with the holder to attach them to the flash. Just an oversite on my part. I purchased the LumiQuest Gel Holder for $19.89 and it worked great.
