5 out of 5 stars Does what it's meant to do.   August 25, 2010

This product is meant for external SATA or eSATA hard drives, such as Western Digital My DVR Expander 1 TB eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive WDG1S10000VN (Black), when you need to transfer data to a USB only computer. It works really well for this purpose, and as far as I can tell the data transfer rates are on par with those of any other USB 2.0 external device. The adapter is compact and well made, and the price is extremely competitive.

If on the other hand you are looking for a SATA to USB connector for an internal hard drive, and only need it for occasional use, then I would recommend taking a look at USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Cable Adapter For 2.5 3.5 HDD or a similar product. If on the other hand you are planing to use your external SATA HD on an ongoing basis you may want to purchase a powered HD enclosure.

Works as advertised and very inexpensive option to plug a SATA external drive into a computer without an eSATA connection. It reduced the transfer speed to USB speeds of course.

Does what it says on the box with one annoying sidenote.
The connected disk still needs an external power source.
I connected a 2" disk from my Mac laptop hoping it would be "bus powered" i.e. enough power would be supplied by plugging in the data cable to spin up the disk as well.
But no, the data connection is just that - data. I had to startup another computer and connect the SATA power cable from that computer to the disk in order to make it work.
So to conclude, it works but it's not as portable as it seems!

5 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm   July 3, 2010

my Free Agent Pro external Harddrive usb port crapped out on me so I had to use this to pull all my data off my drive by E-sata cable but my CPU doesn't have E-Sata so I needed this adapter. Worked Perfectly. Got all my files off and am now sending the Hard Drive in for warranty.

Plugged it in and worked simple as that.

Happy Customer.
