Awesome for iPhone 3G! December 2, 2009 Erik Oleson (Sacramento, CA) 1. Works wonders. Just find the right adapter, plug it in, and press "no" on that warning.
2. Use European mode like others have instructed in these reviews.
3. DON'T pull it out by the flexible cord. My fiancee did, and it ruined it :(
4. Charges and plays perfectly over the radio
5. Also has an "audio out" port near the base of the lighter plug-in that you can use to plug into an AUX input in your car. I use this because my Mercedes has a port for that, but this makes a wonderful stand for the phone facing me.
6. Buy it if you find a good deal! (Mine was $16 shipped)
IT CAUGHT ON FIRE!!!! September 12, 2009 Narflar Let me just say it worked great when it did work. A big problem with these FM transmitters is that they are so low in power they practically have to be next to the radio in order to work. The flexible stalk solved that. It has been the only FM transmitter to even work in my car (Mazda CX-7).
I don't really have any long term experience with this product as it stopped working about 15 min into a 5 hour trip. And by stopped working I mean there was smoking coming from the cigarette lighter plug. IT WAS ON FIRE!! I grabbed the thing by it's stalk and yanked it out only to find the bottom of it was still in there. I don't know why it didn't blow a fuse but there it was just burning away. I had to pull over to the side of the road and pull hte fuse in the car just so I could fish the parts out of the plug.
Not a fun way to start a 5 hour drive.
So I guess what I'm saying is, I do not recommend this device. If you do not have an aux input in your car do yourself a favor and either get a radio that does or get a real RF adapter that is professionally installed and goes inline with your antenna. It's the only reliable way to do this.
Bad Reception August 20, 2009 Randy Gonzalez (Downey, CA) The FM Transmitter is the worst that I have ever seen! Having read the reviews, the main reason I bought this was to charge my iPhone and hold it in place while driving and using maps. A hidden feature that not most people know about is a extra line in input. If your car has an aux connection then this will connect right in! Very smart! If you are buying this for the FM Transmitting feature don't bother.
Works Well August 2, 2009 D. Hughes (Charleston, SC) I've seen this device listed for $100 in a few places and to get it for $15 was quite a steal. I am not sure if it's worth the $100 that a lot of places will charge for it, but I have been very impressed with it. It's pretty simple, if you live in a big city with a lot of radio frequencies, you're going to get static with this device. Otherwise, it works great. It's probably just as good or better than any of the other FM transmitters out there, plus it charges your iPod and is flexible to fit several different car models.
Great physical design; horrible sound quality July 29, 2009 Eugene Y. Vasserman The physical design of the device is wonderful. All components feel solid, and seem to be made from quality materials. User interface is excellent.
The transmission power is definitely sub-par. Sound quality is patchy even when the frequency is nowhere near anything that's in use. I don't know how the transmission power compares to other comparable units, but I once drove by an SUV that completely overwhelmed my transmission, and I got listen to about 5 seconds of a kids' movie instead of my music.
The device is completely unusable in "stereo" mode in major metropolitan areas that have a lot of radio stations, such as Chicago.
