Great Pro Camera! July 29, 2010 Marlyn Gordon I really love this camera. It's light and comfortable, and all the controls are easily accessible. It takes a small learning curve to figure out all the controls, but once you move some of the most-used ones to the manual ring, it's a cinch to use. I like the ergonomics and compact feel of it with the adjustable shoulder pad and pop-out viewfinder. The shotgun microphone is of high quality and I noticed the sound improvement over my older camcorders immediately. 3CCD is still better than the CMOS that comes with this camera, but with a 1/2.9" CMOS (and at half the cost), I really can't tell that much of a difference - especially after I edit my clips in Premiere Pro and Final Cut. The picture is crystal clear in HiDef, but more important - the color is vibrant without being over saturated, and the images taken with the 6.1 MP camera are absolutely brilliant. It comes with lots of outputs as mentioned in the specs, and the first time I uploaded a clip to my computer, I was pleased there were no surprises. Sony has it right with this one. It's perfect for the intermediate videographer who wants to step up a couple notches from just shooting home movies. I am making an independant film with it, and for the money, this camera is perfect for me. Eventually I want to upgrade to the more expensive and feature rich camera's, but in the meantime, this one does not fail to please. The only changes I would suggest to Sony is that they include a larger battery, a carrying strap, A DVD with some goodies on it (it just comes with a PDF of the manual) and a more detailed manual. The manual will get you there, but you'll find the hints, tricks, and tips from Googling more helpful.
Review June 30, 2010 Katie W I recently purchased this camcorder and am really glad I did. I bought the camcorder after reading the great reviews featured on HD Camera Guide. I LOVE the shoulder mount (made so much of a difference) and the picture quality is amazing! Although no XLR inputs can be kind of frustrating.
Cant beat the price for the picture June 26, 2010 Kurt 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have 2 of these camera's. I use them for weddings and other events, and Ill agree at functions people give you the space you need to get your shots because they do take you seriously, but thats not why I bought the 2nd camera. They give me the best quality Im going to get for the price, and its a nice picture on a 50" plazma, rich colors and sharp Images, I get alittle extra pixelation in very dark areas but still a nice picture without a light blinding people at receptions. Sure there are better cameras out there but the next step from here is going to put you in the high $3's with a more expensive lens.
So for the money you cant beat it unless you dig deaper in the wallet.Sony HVR-HD1000U MiniDV 1080i High Definition Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom
The Best shoulder mounted for the money June 2, 2010 Maximilian A. Pinedo 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I shot my first event last Saturday (a birthday party) and I can report the following:
The HD1000u is not the "retro VHS looking plastic camera" described by critics. It feels hefty and is made of high impact ABS plastic. Following the tradition of Sony it has a very appealing look. Since shoulder mount was a definite necessity for my business it has proven an excellent choice. The shoulder pad must be adjusted to your needs to be able to balance the weight, the camera tends to be a bit front heavy but nothing like the Canon XL2 which has made my right arm grow larger than my left. I added an additional 1/8 inch thick rubber pad under the shoulder pad to alleviate hardness .Contrary to opinions I had no problems with the hybrid LCD menus or focusing with the EVF. I found focusing comfortable even in low light. As an semi-pro event videographer I'm yet to find a perfect camera for low light conditions (within my pocket's reach) so I was not expecting much and as such I'm always depending on my trusty custom on board light that possesses a 10, 20 and 50 watts setting. I have no problem convincing anyone for the need of extra lights even demanding "Bridezzilas" or stubborn Clergymen. As mentioned before I own the Cannon XL1s, the XL2, also the Sony HVR-A1U and HDR-HC1, and although the HD 1000u cannot give you the rich colors of the Canon XL2, or the manual selections of the A1U, the HD footage when down converted gives you better definition than the XL2. I remedied the lack of XLR by the acquisition of an XLR adapter and a better quality shotgun mike. An extended range battery is a must and also helps with the camera balance and you HAVE to get the ubiquitous AC/DC battery charger. The main reason I acquired this camera was because my hand held cameras and the front heavy Canons where killing me in long takes. Some times tripods where not feasible and I had to use the dreaded camera mounts but they were also prohibited in some instances. At no time I got this camera because it "looked" professional, In my part time business I deal with people on a one on one basis and the professionalism is established by the way I conduct myself but, then again the looks of the camera do help.
The birthday shoot was a success, I'm in the process of editing the footage and so far it looks great. I wish this camera had A LOT of additions to facilitate my work, but then again, I'm not willing to pay the additional cost, so leave it the way it is.
I shot my 1st wedding in 1968 with a Bell and Howell 306, today I maintain the tradition of all amateurs: Within the limits of my budget, I make any camera work for my needs.
Atentamente:
Lorena Galindo.
