5 out of 5 stars Works Great   March 14, 2010
J. Smith
I've had this for over a month now and what a GREAT little toy. I know it is not meant for continuous use, but I've been using it on my desktop since I got it (saving up for a better computer opposed to buying an external drive [just used one from another rig I had lying around]).

Also helped my friend unload some valuable, though incriminating photos of him and his wife off of his KOed desktop. I'd say buy it, though I would also look around for others. I've seen some that are split 3 ways to include those UBER small netbook drives. Look around, but if you're just looking for a quick fix... THIS IS IT!

5 out of 5 stars A must for computer technicians!   March 5, 2010
K. Ammon (Midwest US)
After reading all the reviews here and on other sites, I made the purchase. I have not been disappointed. The indicator light is perfect. I have salvaged data from two drives, so far. The variety of connection options is wonderful. There are numerous connectors and cables to satisfy most every need. The only thing missing is a case to hold the gear. Had to find my own way of storing and transporting all the pieces. Still, it's a welcomed item to have in my arsenal.

3 out of 5 stars Sabrent USB to SATA/IDE   March 3, 2010
Ralph Kurtzman (Berkeley, CA, US)
This is a product with an interesting and very flexible design. One can change between SATA, IDE, 2.5, 3.5instantaneously. Unfortunately, Sabrent supplies it with a very unreliable AC power supply and apparently, they know it. My power supply was DOA, no light, no spin-up. As soon as I told them my problem, they sent a good replacement. However, the power supply is not needed for the 2.5 drives. Sarbent is one of those rare companies with competent technical "assistance!" Sabrent USB-DSC5 Serial ATA or IDE 2.5-/3.5-Inch to USB 2.0 Cable Converter Adapter with Power Supply There is one design fault, unlike ordinary ribbon cable, it is quite easy to plug a 3.5 in incorrectly. A further problem is Micro Soft disk formatting, both the Windows 7 and XP give unstable results, Seagate's formatting program is stable (what's new?). I got this for older drives, I have not tested it for SATA.

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the risk   March 1, 2010
Mark Hilgenberg (Woodland Hills, CA United States)
I went cheap and it was cheap. It comes in several pieces that are easy to misplace, some parts are hard to connect to the drives. It overheats drives and in one case caused one drive to stop working. I sent it back and spent an extra $10 for a much better adapter.

4 out of 5 stars cable converter adaptor   February 27, 2010
J. Hansen (Florida)
Unit worked fine without problems except that the adaptor is too wide and when ide connection and power connection are close there is no room to plug in both connectors. An ide extension cable would solve the problem.
This was a problem with an optical drive
