Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
When used in combination with Nikon's latest digital SLRs, the D70 or D2H, the SB-600 supports Advanced Wireless Lighting as a remote Speedlight that can be positioned as one of multiple remote flashes to significantly extend creative possibilities. To assist in such situations, the Speedlight SB-600 also has a readylight located beside the LCD on the rear panel that can be easily seen from a distance. The SB-600 can also emit an audible alert for further assistance. Easy-to-view LCD with 6 simple-to-understand backlit buttons Guide Number of 30/98 [ISO100,m/ft], 42/138 [ISO200,m/ft] (at 35mm zoom) Auto zoom of 24 to 85mm, extendable to 14mm with built-in wide-flash adapter Advanced Wireless Lighting available with D2H or D70 when used as a remote Auto FP High-Speed Sync (with D2H only); use with fast shutter speeds achieves effective blurring of out-of-focus background elements Flash Color Information - optimized white balance makes use of data from the Speedlight FV lock holds flash value, enabling recomposition prior to shooting Design consistent with those of next-generation D-SLRs, with a triangular design element on the top that complements the D-SLR motif Requires 4 AA Batteries (Alkaline or Rechargeable NiCad or NIMH) for use

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Product   January 6, 2009

I have taken several hundred pictures since purchasing the 600. Each picture was exposed perfectly to draw out the desired aspects of the subject. Well worth the cost.

5 out of 5 stars partnered with d40   January 2, 2009

...so far so good. somehow big for d40 but i guess if you want it more powerfull than sb40 then it has to be larger right? great controls resulting in great pics so far.

5 out of 5 stars Great product   January 2, 2009

This is a great addition to your DSLR. I have a Nikon D40 and the built-in flash is inadequate for indoor shots.

I tilt this flash straight up and bounce off ceiling. Pictures come out without the ugly glare look and very even.

You may think the price is expensive for just a "flash" but its well worth it. And don't try to go cheap with third party flashes, they don't communicate as well with the camera as first party models

5 out of 5 stars Nikon Flash   December 30, 2008

Love it. When I first brought it home I had my grandson hide in a dark room and I just pointed and took shots aroung the room as a game of hide and seek to see how good the flash was and when we looked at the photos I won the game. The flash was powerful enough to find my grandson in the dark room. It was great.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful Choice !   December 24, 2008

After reading some reviews in deciding between Sb-800 and SB-600 I went for SB-600 and put the money I saved towards buying a good lens. I didn't loose too much in choosing SB-600 over SB-800. Flash range is pretty decent and a fully charged rechargeable (NIMH 2100) gave me around 200 shots (depends upon usage). I shot a wedding with it right after it came out of the box. In general pictures were properly exposed and the built-in diffuser produced noticibly soft effects on face. Bounce back flash result came out a bit under exposed but it has more to do with the camera (I use D80) than the flash itself as Nikon tech support confirms that DSLRs under expose a bit to preserve highlights and data. I was able to nicely and easily fix all my under exposed bounce back pictures using Adobe LightRoom software. I had some issues with power recycling between consecutive shots but it could be due to the battery itself. In my opinion it is a good choice for the money that makes flash photography a good experience.
